the Winners of Albert Playwrights Networks’s 10 minute play competition are showcased in a series of Staged Readings.
The Playwrights
Bridgette Boyko is a well-rounded artist dedicated to the art of storytelling. She grew up in an environment that fostered her imagination which led her to pursue musical theatre, modeling, writing, and more. Bridgette graduated Vancouver Film School’s Acting for Film & Television Program as Valedictorian in 2021. She continues on the path of creativity and has had the privilege of having some of her plays read at The Leap Festival at the Arts Club, and the Walterdale Theatre’s From Cradle to Stage Festival. Bridgette is working hard to develop her skills, create new work, and collaborate. She is best known for her vibrant personality, dedication, and her ability to spread a little magic wherever she goes.

Currently located in Edmonton, Calla holds a BFA in Playwriting from Concordia University in Montreal. They won the 2015 Kit Brennan Playwriting Award for their play The Wind and the Rain, which went on tour to the 2018 Regina, Calgary, and Edmonton Fringe Festivals.

Victoria Kibblewhite is a theatre artist living on Treaty 6 territory. She currently attends the University of Alberta’s Bachelor of Fine Arts Acting program. While primarily an actor, she has recently delved into the production side of theatre and is extremely grateful for the opportunity to showcase their work through the Springboards New Play Festival. When not doing theatre, you can find her climbing a wall somewhere.

AJ Hrooshkin has spent most of their life on the grid roads and poorly paved highways that bridge rurality with urban niceties. They find tranquillity in prairie skies and inspiration while playing cards on rickety tables. Focusing on themes including intimacy, Queerness, and silence, AJ's works seek to highlight blue-collar lives and experiences while paying homage to the strange prairie upbringing they had. As an artist, and a human, AJ seeks to bridge gaps whether they be between performers and audiences, Queer and straight communities, or rural and urban cultures. Their recent works include Train One to Coal Valley, which was included in the New Works Festival’s Mainstage Series. They are currently developing a solo show, Ada & AJ, which will be staged at the upcoming Edmonton Fringe Festival.

Linda Wood-Edwards has been producing her plays since 2005. Select plays include Spring Alibi (Adelaide AU/Edmonton/Washington DC/Yukon/Saskatchewan); The Great Whorehouse Fire of 1921 (Northern Light Theatre, Edmonton Fringe, Infinite Imagination Camrose/Leduc), Never Let the Crew See You Cry (Alberta Tour, Edmonton Fringe), Trail and Error, Three Nights to Forever, True Grid, and Almost the Pioneer Brewing Company. Linda’s plays have garnered some sweet accolades including two Sterling nominations. Linda consults to boards on governance and writes bylaws. When she has a pressing need to use adjectives, she writes a play. Linda is also a certified funeral celebrant, a beer judge in training, and a devoted fan of the CFL.

The Creative Team
Andrew Ritchie (he/him) is a director, theatre maker, improviser, and producer born and raised in Amiskwaciwaskahikan (Edmonton) on Treaty 6 territory. He is thrilled to be directing five 10 minute plays as part of EDMONten and involved in the Springboards New Play Festival! Previously for Workshop West: Andrew directed new plays by high school students and taught with Writes of Passage and assistant directed The Laws of Thermodynamics by Cat Walsh. Currently he is Artistic Director of Thou Art Here Theatre and Program Coordinator with Theatre Alberta. He has an MFA in Directing/Creation from York University, a BA in Drama from University of Alberta, and is a graduate of the Banff/Citadel Professional Theatre Program and the Rozsa Arts Management Program. Previously he was the Sandbox Series coordinator & theatre school director at Globe Theatre (Regina, SK) and a co-founder and festival director of the Found Festival (Common Ground Arts). He sends his love to his partner Marlee and his one year old son Elton.

Jayce MacKenzie is a multi-talented artist who graduated from the Theatre Arts program at Grant MacEwan in 2010. She has had the pleasure of working with numerous top-notch theatre companies in Edmonton, including Teatro La Quindicina, The Maggie Tree, Whizgiggling Productions, and Northern Light Theatre. Her outstanding work has earned her three Sterling nominations and a Sterling award for her performance in Whizgiggling's Fringe production of Salt Water Moon. Jayce is eagerly anticipating her return to the stage in 2024 for the premiere of Trevor Schmidt's latest new work. Jayce has acted in film and television and has been recording commercial voiceovers for Shaw since 2019. She recently recorded the lead voice for the new children's cartoon and video game, Time Hoppers: Silk Road. Jayce is thrilled to be participating in this year's SpringBoards festival!

Priya Narine (she/her) is a mixed-race actor, singer, and shameless Swiftie born and raised in amiskwaciwâskahikan (Edmonton). Select theatre credits include: MINE (RISER 2023/Common Ground Arts staged reading), A Christmas Carol (Citadel Theatre), Measure For Measure and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Freewill Shakespeare Festival), Chrysothemis (Studio Theatre), Queen Lear is Dead (Fox Den Collective), and Slight of Mind (Citadel/Theatre Yes). Priya is a graduate of the University of Alberta’s BFA Acting program.

Dean Stockdale grew up in Treaty 6 territory Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and is a player and writer of music, a dancer, and a pacifist. They want to create art that educates, informs, questions, and brings people together through the expansion of perspectives. Some of their most recent productions include Little Women (Theatre Calgary), The Wolves (The Maggie Tree/Citadel Theatre), and Midsummer Night’s Dream (Freewill Shakespeare). They love new work and are very excited at the opportunity to help bring it to life. If a project carries truth, they want to be a part of it.
